The two games do a lot of things very, very well, but are quite different. Fallout 3 still has lots of choice and consequence, but it’s effects are more nuanced, the way random encounters work and choices come back on you in unexpected ways makes it feel more natural than New Vegas.

Fallout New Vegas is probably ‘better’, but 3 is definitely worth starting with or playing. Discussion (I apologize if this is a pretty obvious thing, I'm pretty new to the series in general.) I'm playing Fallout 3 for the first time (normal difficulty) and for the most part I've been getting my ass kicked in ways I didn't have to worry about when I played New Vegas on normal. If you say A, you must also say B. Fallout 3 has better atmosphere, more Fallout-y tone, better locations, actual exploration, more interesting factions, better side quests, better DLCs, better motivation of the player character that isn't "I'm going to meddle with New Vegas struggle for power, because the game forces me to", better morality Start with Fallout 3 then hit up New Vegas. 3 has the longest intro ever and if you didn’t love Fallout you might give up on the game like I did first time. 3 then gets intense. New Vegas is way more chill and consistent. However it’s very empty in the desert so that can be good or bad for you. New Vegas had a lot more going for it in terms of gameplay and writing. A lot of the quests were great too. This does not mean Fallout 3 was bad by any means - in fact, I much prefer the setting and exploration more in Fallout 3 to New Vegas. Basically, they're both good and I still play them both. Because Fallout 3 is the first Fallout game most people played and a lot of the Fallout fan base overlaps with Bethesda's fan base, so their post-Morrowind "The entire world revolves around the player character" thing is more important than the story making sense or having depth. Though i have to say, fallout 1 and 2 have a much better atmophere than 3. New vegas sucked to me because i expected much more having played 3 first. Fallout 3 has some outstanding quest mods like Mothership Zeta but FNV has New Vegas Bounty 1 and 2, quests like The Most Dangerous Game and Decisions with Regrets, Dog City Denver and A World of Pain to name but a few. Fallout 3 is written better, with better characters, a more immersive game world, better endings, better dialogue, better game play, better graphics and most importantly of all, it is a sci fi game not a western with lasers. TheDuckOnQuack • 10 yr. ago. Red Dead is the better shooter and has the better story, but I personally enjoyed New Vegas a lot more. There are more choices to make, much more quests to complete, and the RPG elements (levels, skills, SPECIAL, weapon modding) really make the game shine. That being said, if you like GTA, you'll probably love RDR.
Vector apple lunch Jan 8, 2022 @ 2:50pm. Ive always had trouble with mods and the Nexus mod manager and all that hot jazz. But yes, Fallout new vegas is indeed better than fallout 3 with mods. BY FAR. People may hate me for saying this but Fallout 3 is a hotmess of game whos mods dont make the game any better.
