EDIT: I made a big typo mess here, it’s the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM not the Canon 11-24mm. Apologies; this happens when you are in a hurry. DPReview posted a set of sample pics shot with Sigma’s 24mm f/1.4 lens. Yesterday Signa announced the price of the new Sigma 24mm f/1.4 lens ($849). Pre-orders at BHphoto and Adorama. Once again Sigma In the same time Canon Lens EF 24mm 1: 1.4 L USM was introduced 23 years earlier than Nikkor. On the side there is another 24 mm highly specialized lens: Nikon N PC-E Nikkor 24mm 1: 3.5D Tilt / Shift ED Aspherical Nano Crystal Coat - from 2008 to the present day. 13 elements in 10 groups. It is a lens with perspective control. Optically, I believe the 24mm is better because the 35mm has pretty bad loca. I own the 35 1.8 but if money wasn't a option i would get the 24mm lens. Also if you do more indoor shots, f1.4 at 24mm would be a lot faster than f1.8 at 35mm, so you would get cleaner images. Reply Reply with quote Reply to thread Complain.

Canon made three different 2.8/24 FD lenses. The Canon FD 24mm 1:2.8 chrome nose was introduced in 1971 and is heavy at 410g. It has the less effective S.C. coating. The Canon FD 24mm 1:2.8 S.S.C. was introduced in 1973, it is very well build and a bit hefty at 330g. The Canon (new) FD 24mm 1:2.8 introduced in 1979 has the new mounting system has a silent focus motor built into the lens. Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art. Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art. Lenses with built-in focus motor focus faster and more quietly than lenses without a focus motor which rely on the camera's body focus motor. minimum focus distance. Typically, I stick with Canon gear, but decided to give the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 a try because it is a much newer design, has less vignetting win the center, and has better reviews for astrophotography (which I don't do much right now, but I want to get into). Also, saving $400 from a refurb Canon 24 mm f/1.4 didn't hurt!
I will also be putting it up against the legacy Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G for F mount as well as the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art which is available for Nikon F Mount, Canon EF mount, Sony E mount and L

The Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro Lens's IS system features an impressive CIPA 5-stops of assistance rating, and coordinated IS with a camera having IBIS allows for up to 6.5 stops of correction. The RF 24mm f/1.8's IS system is extremely quiet, with a barely perceptible "hmmm" heard only with an ear close to the lens.

With its maximum aperture of f/1.4, the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art is capable of gathering a lot of light, which might make it seem like a great lens for astrophotography. I photographed the Milky Way at different apertures and came to conclusion that the lens produces quite a bit of coma at both f/1.4 and f/2, as can be seen below: NIKON D750

The 17mm version did cover more area than the 24mm, but not as much difference as one would expect from a 17mm vs. 24mm lens. Maybe what I should try is to use privatebydesign's method and separate the center shot from what has been added and compare the latter.
