Pets are "easy". You summon them, the do damage and cast debuffs, and your DPS jumps by some amount. The reason pets aren't used in endgame is that they do less damage than whatever trait line and utility skills you're giving up, and a tank isn't necessary when 5+ man content usually has a human player already doing that job better.
